MAKING THE MOST OF A NEW DECADE

Where do you want to be in 10 years? Who do you want to be? As we jump into a new decade, I’d like to challenge us to begin with the end in mind.

Many of us are familiar with the common saying, “Hindsight is 20/20.” This refers to the fact that after an event has passed it’s easy to look backwards and see with perfect vision and understanding what could have or should have been done.

What if we could have clear vision not only for what has already happened, but also for where we are headed? Our God sees and knows the end from the beginning. Isaiah 46:10 says, “I declare from the beginning how it will end and foretell from the start what has not yet happened (TPT).”

Take inspiration from the woman in Proverbs 31. Verse 27 reads, “She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness.” In other words, she stands like a watchman on a wall, peering into the distance to be alert and clued into what is coming and then orders things in her house accordingly. The image of her watching is of her leaning forward to see what was approaching. It was a term used of the prophets. They would be able to declare and predict future events because they were positioned to see what was coming.

Catch this: she not only looked forward, but also allowed it to direct her current activities. She doesn’t eat the bread of idleness. Simply put, she did not remain unresponsive to what she saw.

We may not be able to see everything coming, but our hearts can be so connected to the Eternal One. He will give us direction and wisdom, for He gives liberally to all who ask (James 1:5).

What will be the outcome of your next decade? Let’s learn to lean into God for wisdom and insight on how to successfully navigate a new year, a new decade.
